ease
of joining and the way that the openness will be enforced. Here Dawson
stressed the fact that there are no costs associated with being a =
Wireless
Village supporter and that all supporters get access to any documents =
or
technical information that is available. Dawson also pointed out that =
the
agreement that supporters agree simply requires that you agree to not
violate antitrust and competitive laws and outline the fact that the =
IPR
(Intellectual Property Rights) is based on the RAND (Reasonable and Non
Discriminatory) model which prevents anyone using common IPR to hinder
development by another vendor.
At first glance this might seem like a group of companies getting =
together
because they can't take on the three vendors who Dawson admits control
over 90% of the current IM market. However, Dawson was at pains to =
point
out that although AOL, MSN and Yahoo are not founder members, this does
not adversely impact the initiative at all. All three vendors have
received copies of the specifications and are currently working through
them.
In the final analysis of this first event, the fact that the demos =
showed
clear interoperability and the ability of the SSP to provide a proxy
solution should provide a basis for all vendors, large or small to see =
the
mobile market as a part of a larger messaging initiative.
